Civil War and Reconstruction

What does it mean to overturn a veto?

If Congress passes a law that the president doesn’t like, he can veto the law.   Under the U.S. Constitution, Congress can vote by a two-thirds majority to overturn his veto, thus making the act law without the president’s approval.
